Obituary of Miriam Jane Matthews
It’s with great sadness, that the family of the late Miriam Jane Matthews of Grand Bank, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 1st, 2024 at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, at the age of 80.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of love and memories, are her husband of 63 years, Leonard Matthews, children Pearl, Gail (Rob), Reg (Tracey) and Jamie (Crystal); Grandchildren, Santana (Dwight), Kayla, Brittany (Brud), Katera (Johnny), Danette (Mark) and Aaron (Emma); Great grandchildren Hailey, Kylie, Kate, Liv and Isla; sisters Almeda (Ugene), Alice, Phyllis and Brenda (Mike) plus a large circle of family and friends.
Miriam was predeceased by her parents Pearl and Thomas Hiscock, step mother Greta Hiscock, brother David Hiscock; and special friends Joan and John Foote.
Miriam Jane was born August 16th 1944, to Pearl and Thomas Hiscock, of Grand Beach. She met the love of her life, Leonard Matthews in 1959, and got married on October 13th, 1961. They later had 4 children, Pearl, Gail, Jamie and Reg. Through out the years, Miriam loved going to church, berry picking, combing the beach for sea glass and dancing; she had a love for cooking, sewing, shopping, specifically at the Thrift store, and cats, especially Kayleigh and Janie. Miriam made friends wherever she went and will be missed dearly by everyone.
The Matthews’ family would like to express a sincere thank you to all the staff at the Blue Crest Nursing home for their care and compassion shown to Miriam and her family during her time there.
In keeping with Miriam's wishes cremation is to take place.
The family will be receiving friends at Serenity Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Monday October 7, 2024 from 2-4PM with a service of remembrance to follow.
