Covid-19 Virus and Its Impact on our Funeral Services
With the rapid developments and the changes we are experiencing as a result of the Covid-19 Virus, we are and will continue to review and update our policies and procedures with respect to how funeral services are provided to our community.
We will base our guidelines on provincial public health notices and requirements. At the forefront of our policies will be addressing public health concerns.
At this point in time, social distancing is a key government strategy to combat transmission of the virus. If you are experiencing cold, flu, fever, coughing or are not feeling well we ask that you not attend a funeral service. If attending a service, please refrain from activities such as handshaking and hugging, and maintain a safe distance from fellow mourners.
We have stepped up our disinfecting of common areas. It is difficult to guarantee a completely safe environment but we will do our upmost to provide a sterile environment for visitors. Hand sanitizer stations will be available at our entrance as supplies are available. We recommend visitors also bring their own personal supply.
With respect to managing the size of gatherings at our funeral home we recommend the following. If you have compromised health, are above the age of 70 or are not a close family member or friend, we suggest you do not attend the service. Please use our website’s obituary page to leave condolences. The family of the deceased will understand your decision not to attend the service.
For families who are choosing traditional funeral services, with casket present and embalming, please be advised that this is still possible and that embalming practices do cleanse and disinfect the body, meaning a traditional funeral is possible. Please contact us if you need more information about embalming practices when an infectious disease is present.
This is a trying time for many in our community and we will do our utmost to ensure families have the ability to say their farewells in a meaningful manner, while striving to minimize the transmission of this virus.
As mentioned above, changes are occurring rapidly and we will keep you up to date as our policies and guidelines evolve to keep pace with provincial health mandates. If you have specific questions about funeral services, please contact us by phone.
