Louis was born and raised in Frenchmen’s Cove, NL. Louis met the love of his life, Sarah, in St. John’s at The Miller Centre when he slipped her note to go on a date. The two became soul mates and lived happily together for the rest of their lives. Louis devoted any spare time he had to his faith in the Catholic Church, tending to their small chapel and hosting many meals for the priests in their home to show appreciation. As a young man, he was a fisherman by heart and worked on the water for his entire career. From inshore fishing to the boats off the coast of Labrador, he poured his heart and soul into his career, even serving as an active member and representative of the fisheries union in the 1970s, to provide for his young growing family. Even after his retirement from the water, he became the Fire Chief for the Frenchmen’s Cove Volunteer Fire Department, serving his community proudly for many years. Louis was a man you could depend on, the type of man that would give you the shirt off his back. A man you can guarantee would put a smile on your face even during the darkest of days. Louis quite enjoyed his cup of tea, cooking Jiggs Dinners for his family, hunting, gardening, and going for drives with his close friend to catch up on a weekend morning.
As a cancer survivor, he proudly participated in Cancer Relays and fundraisers such as Walk a Mile in His Shoes to raise awareness. A strong, resilient man who continued to face every day even after the same disease claimed the lives of his wife and oldest son. Continuously reminding his loved ones how they can always depend on him when times get rough.
