Tribute To Ethel Burfitt by Daughter Sue Smith

A tribute to my Mom-My Best Friend
My precious, darling Mom always put others before herself. She deeply loved her family and all of her friends wholeheartedly. Mom may have been small in stature at a height of 4ft 9im….However, her personality, charm, compassion was mighty big. Mom and her friends enjoyed a game of cards, the laughter and fun they had was wonderful. Mom loved to have gatherings of family and friends in the basement. She hosted birthday parties and doted on everyone to make sure they had lots of food and drink.

Mom’s favorite time of year was summer; that’s when her nephew could visit from Ontario. That’s when the Basement Band performed (Fred and Mary Rose and Carl and Shirley Rose). Accordion, guitars, harmonica, song sheets, speakers…..the whole show. Lots of laughs and good times and a few dances had by all.

My mother was an exceptional person. She touched so many people’s lives and hearts. The outpouring of sympathy we’ve received is a testament to how special my Mom was to so many people. I was so blessed to have such an amazing Mom; as I told her many times throughout her illness, she will always live in my heart. Our affectionate response to one another was always “LOVES YEA”.

Rest in peace my beautiful Mom. I’ll see you on the other side someday and we’ll be together again.

Poems by her husband William

Twilight

I saw it in the twilight.
Trace across the evening sky.
It could have been a "Shooting Star"
Or "The Year" that just passed by?
It lasted just a moment
Then vanished in the mist.
A moment filled with ecstasy
A moment of pure bliss.
Like the star I saw on the evening
Bringing light into my life.
So, you have done it also
Because you are "my wife".

Love

Love is not Bound By space or time.
And age or place cannot confine.
Love is a beauty of the soul,
It welds the world and makes it whole.
As each new lily in the field
adds to the beauty of the yield.
So each new love with equal grace,
will make the world a Better place.
