To Burdetta's family--Cyril and Diane, Howard, Jaclyn, Madison and Hailey, and other family members and friends:
We are distance relatives of Burdetta. We met her in August of 2007 during Burin Heritage Days. She told us about it being 40 years since her first husband Howard died. We had traveled to the Burin Peninsula to do some genealogy research and to meet this wonderful family historian, with whom I, Grace, had spoken to on the phone a number of times (having made contact through her cousin, Carrie Brushett from Halifax). Burdetta shared a lot of family history with me and geographical facts too. She never seemed to tire of my many questions.
We learned of Burdetta's death from Nora (Paul) Reid, another relative on the Paul family side. We offer our heartfelt sympathy to all of Burdetta's family and friends. We met Cyril during one of our trips to Burin, the second one being in 2009; however, sadly we have not met others so dear to this special woman. I usually spoke with Burdetta a number of times each year and was planing to talk with her on her 87th birthday on July 15th. Now my husband and I will light a candle in her memory to honour her fondly on that day.
May your memories of this dear woman, while different for each of you, bring you comfort in the days ahead. With Beazley/Beasley family ties,
Grace and Richard Beazley (Halifax, NS)
PS If Cyril or Howard wish to be in touch, Grace would like that very much. The funeral home has our email address.

Dear Howard and Family. I am almost at a loss just knowing that your grandmother has left us. It will leave a big hole realizing that she has died. Aunt Burdetta, you were the most wonderful person that anyone could have ever known. Over the last 43 years that you have been a part of my life has been a blessing. You welcomed us with open arms and and has made sure that we were your family too. How Norlynda loved visiting with you alone when she was young. How we loved Keith and your Mom. I am sure that they are there to welcome you home. I know how much you loved Howard and now his family, and how proud you are of him. You were an angel on earth, and we will remember you always. Love Gaye.

Aunt Burdetta will be missed for many reasons; She was a pillar in her community (involved in many ways), plus she was a spiritual person (she loved to read & discuss the Bible), and most importantly, she was a kind & loving person (with both friends & family alike). I will miss our yearly visits with her and listening to her many stories from the past. Our thoughts are with Howard and family- Lisa Gervais (Street)

Sorry to hear of Burdetta’s passing.
We’ve lost our family historian, a well-loved aunt who had such a deep concern for others.
She set such a good example of putting others ahead of her own challenges.
Enjoyed to the fullest our last visit a short while ago before leaving to visit family.

To Howard & family
Our hearts are heavy today as we learned of Aunt Burdetta's passing. Being so far from home, Aunt Burdetta was always a joy to visit each time we came back... whether it was to play games or paint nails with Catherine, going for walks or discovering "off the trail" places with us. We loved her stories on our drives or while at home. She loved everyone equally and never held back to give her honest opinion whatever the topic. Her garden was second to none - blooming with fabulous colour - we were always in awe. Rest in Peace Aunt Burdetta... your time on earth may be done but we know you are shining above in a wonderful place. With love always. Jill (Simms), Dave, & Catherine Belanger

We are saddened to hear of Burdetta's passing. We have known her since our ministry in Burin from 1959-64, and she has been a dear friend ever since. She was a woman of stalwart Christian faith, in spite of the loss of two husbands and a dear son, and other troubles. She was very compassionate and caring, always concerned about others who were hurting. Our prayers and condolences to grandson Howard and family, and other relatives. We commend her to God with thanksgiving for her life and friendship and Christian witness.

Miss Burdetta, I will miss you my dear friend , you were like a mother and mentor. I will miss our weekly phone chats and giggles. Thank you for hearing my thoughts, my pain, my worries , for listening , for singing and praying with me and for my family and friends. Thank you for your smile and your beautiful heart!
God made you to make this world shine a so much brighter!
Everyone, including myself, can see so many wonderful things including God’s magnificent and ever-present love in you, your love for family, friends, life in general, the simple things. I’ll always see your smiling face in your garden.
You have told me many times , that we are only borrowed , on borrowed time, until God calls us home. You are now at home with the almighty , but , boy or boy , what an imprint your footprints have left on our hearts.”
Rest In Peace dear soul, enjoy your garden up in heaven , smile down on us when you can. Until me meet again.
I love you ,
Beverley
