This is a poem I've written for Tom. It's called "His heart was big , his heart was blue". As a child he left a little place called Burin. He went to the city that wasn't for him .He had a dream to make come true. His heart was big , his heart was blue.
He loved his family and all his friends too. His heart was big , his heart was blue.
He left us way too soon. But he gave us smuggler's cove and the jersey room. We will remember his hug and we still have his little bug. We remember the dominion for he drank a few. His heart was big , his heart was blue. Some day we will sit and recall it. About the big burly man named Tom Hollett. At the end of the day we can all surely say. He did it for Burin , he did it for you. Because his heart was big ,his heart was blue .................. Gerard.

So sorry about the untimely passing of your Dad. I know you will miss him terribly, but know that there are many others, including myself and all the residents of his hometown of Burin, feel his loss as well.
Your Dad has seen many of his dreams for our town fulfilled, but we will never know all his dreams that were yet to come true. He had such a passion for making Burin the best place to visit and we are all so thankful for that. There's nothing that feels as good as a walk through old Burin with it's magnificently restored buildings and the cherished photos at the exhibition centre depicting life of years ago in Burin and area.
Poor's Poet's Poetry Hill gives an excellent vantage point for a spectacular view of Burin Harbour. There is so much more! He loved this place and he was teaching us to love it as well. He was giving us something to be proud of. He will be greatly missed!
Thinking of you and sending you my deepest sympathies!

My daughter and I were in St. John's very recently and met up with Tom. Although I was in St. John's primarily for business, Tom took it upon himself to show us various points of interest in the area. One of our final stops was a visit to O'Briens tours in hopes of seeing a whale. We had no luck sighting a whale as it was too late in the season however, when we met up with Tom he presented my daughter with a stuffed whale saying I am sorry you did not see a whale but I wanted to make sure you at least went home with one. What a thoughtful person Tom was. He was certainly an example of how we should all treat one another.
We are so sorry for your loss. Tom was a Gem.

We were so shocked to hear of the tragic accident and passing of your father.
I know this is a very difficult & sad time in your young lives to have your dad taken from you so quickly. I too will miss him terribly even after not seeing him for some time. He was a kind & loving friend for many years. Your dad was a very special man .
He was such a compassionate person who touched so many around him . Anyone who had ever met him could never forget him.
You are so blessed to have had such a great man as your father. He was one of a kind who always did what he said he would do. He always seemed to prove dreams can actually become reality as he had that determination and passion to see them through. I am sure there were unspoken hardships along the way but with his relentless perseverance,hard work and that Tom Hollett personality his innovative ideas became works of success that always benefited his community and the people around him. His legacy will live on .
You both know how much your dad loved you. That love will be forever in your hearts & memories. I will always remember the many times over the years I had visited your family home. I remember how proud He was of both of you. That will never change. Your dad will live on forever in you & in the fond memories you both have. Remember the things he taught you . He will always be looking over you.

Christopher and Cheyenne;
It was with much sadness that we heard of Tom’s untimely death this past Saturday and that sense of loss has only increased this week as we remembered our lifetime of memories with Tom. We met Tom shortly after his move to St. John’s and although later years put us in different parts of the country yet there were the calls as if we were next door, and after moving back to the Province there were the visits with Tom. Tom was a businessman, not just for the business but for the employees and the services he could provide. Tom was proud of his province, especially the Burin area. Tom was a motorcycle enthusiast, he loved the open road with wind in his face. Tom was a family man, a dad who loved his son and daughter more than life. Tom was a dreamer; not for benefitting himself but ultimately for others. Tom was a big man in stature and wisdom with a humble spirit. We were privileged to see amazing grace and love shown to so many with whom he crossed paths. Tom you are loved and will be missed.

You two were his heart and soul. I know you will miss him tremendously. I hope you find great comfort in knowing he was such a good friend to so many people out of the goodness of his heart, not because he expected or wanted anything in return.

Like many people in this province, I was shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's sudden passing. I was a former co-worker of Tom's back in the 80s and I will always smile when I think back on the many great times we shared. To his family, I send my sincere condolences and I trust that your own memories of Tom will help you through this very difficult time. RIP my friend.

We are thinking of you during this time of sorrow and grieving. We hope memories of his generosity, kindness and the love he had for family and friends will sustain you through these difficult times. Despite the loss of his physical presence, he will forever be present in his home community of Burin. His work and passions will live on in the many projects he spearheaded.
